Biography

CARMEN SERRA was born in 1981 in Augusta in the province of Siracusa, Sicily. She discovered her passion for music as a child, singing from an early age, and studying dance and acting.

At the age of 18 she moved to Rome to continue her studies. She enrolled at IUSM (University Institute of Motor Sciences).
Parallel to these studies she expanded her artistic preparation: she enrolled at the Scuola Professionale del Teatro Greco to study classic and modern dance, and at IALS in Rome, dedicating herself to writing, singing, acting and her first live performances (still only cover songs).

To perfect her acting, she decided to attend the Centro Studi Ettore Petrolini (with Roberta Fiorentini) for a year (variety), subsequently registering at the Piccola Accademia dello Spettacolo (Stefano Jurgens) and integrating her studies with individual courses held by Claretta Carotenuto .
She is currently enrolled at the Actor Studios of Anna D’Abbraccio.
From 2002 to 2003 CARMEN SERRA was part of the cast for the show by Pietro Garinei “E’ Molto Meglio In 2”, a comedy written by Jaja Fiastri and Enrico Vaime with Gianfranco Jannuzzo, Paola Quattrini and Lorenza Mario, with choreography by Gino Landi; this show was performed at the Teatro Sistina and toured throughout Italy.

From 2004 to 2005, again with Gino Landi and Pietro Garinei, she appeared once more at the Teatro Sistina, for two more years and touring across the country, in the comedy “Vacanze Romane” with Massimo Ghini and Serena Autieri.

She’s currently on the music market with her album NO SELF CONTROL (released May 25th 2010), produced by Rosso di Sera records and published and distributed by EMI MUSIC.
With NO SELF CONTROL she climbed the record charts, remaining in 15th position in the FIMI standings (national sales) for 6 weeks; she remained in 10th place in the Radio \ Video Italia standings during the same period .
With a 2nd place in the sales rankings for independent labels (AFI), she won the AFI award in Brussels, appearing as a guest at the Festival of Italian Song Throughout the World on January 29th.

After appearing as the opening act for the Gatto Panceri tour in 2006, in the summer of 2009 she decided to move to New York for a few months. This experience allowed Carmen Serra to come into contact with all musical genres, from jazz to electronic music, rock, latino, rap and country, singing in various Manhattan clubs, namely The Bitterend and the Red Lion.

For the entire summer of 2010 she was on tour across Italy, appearing in concerts with well known artists, as well as taking part in the stages of the Match Music Tour.
She’s preparing for a tour of Latin America with the Spanish translation of her album NO SELF CONTROL; the promotional tour will pass through Peru, Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, with the singles “Ciao” and “Mi viaje sin tin” (a reworking of the Italian song “La mia corsa senza te” ).
